Stress, as with any negative emotion, is absolutely contagious. Human beings pick up on each other’s energy, and we’re wired to be able to perceive negative and positive emotions. Stress serves an adaptive function so we can function together effectively.

Downside is we become like our environment if we don’t develop resilience to it. How to be resilient? If negative emotions are contagious, so are positive ones. Cultivate them through positive interventions including gratitude exercises.

Also practice mindfulness to notice when others are in a negative space and stay immune to it; mindfulness also helps us remain balanced and calm, to not become our emotions.
